Park St. Trio - 3 Plus 5  Podcast

I'm super exctied to announce the release of Park St. Trio's 2nd album, 3 Plus 5.

3 Plus 5 is an adventure album. The trio has five extra players join them in bringing to life a blend of modern-leaning jazz. The songwriting reflects the band's evolution and range of musical interest, moving the listener along a spectrum of sounds from fun and whimsical to reflective and moody. Like Goodnight Daylight, the first Park St. Trio album, 3 Plus 5 was recorded to 1-inch tape with no overdubs and no "fixing" of notes - on this album, what you hear is what they played. In the studio the band did three takes per song and selected their favorite one.

The Trio:
Jason Countryman - Guitar
Matt Roads - Bass
Steve Slater - Drums

The Guests:
Dave Eshelman - Trombone
Jesse Micek - Piano
Stan Muncy - Vibes, Xylophone
Geordie Frazer - Sax, Clarinet
Andy Wilke - Trumpet

You can get the album on iTunes, Amazon, parksttrio.com, or parksttrio.bandcamp.com

Park St. Trio recording and more

Well, there is a lot to say.

Lets start with the new Aloha Screwdriver album, with is done and being printed.  What a blast to make another aggressive surf punk album.  The drumming is some of my best and and the songs are really fun to listen to.  It will be released early next year, so be sure to check back for that on my site and on the Aloha Screwdriver site:  www.alohascrewdriver.com

Farewell Typewriter is in the middle of recording our next album.  We actually finished a 3 songs EP, but then decided that we have enough material to go forward with a brand new full length album.

Lastly, Park St. Trio just finished recording our 2nd album.  We invited guests on the one, so it's going to different than the first on.  Here's the list of players:

Jason Countryman - Guitar, Uke, Banjo
Stan Muncy - Vibes, Xylo
Matt Roads - Bass
Steve Slater - Drums
Dave Eshelman - Trombone
Geordie Frazer - Clarinet, Tenor Sax
Andy Wilke - Trumpet
Jesse Micek - Piano

The Album should be released early 2013.  It was recorded to 2" tape, just like our first album, "Goodnight, Daylight".  Look out for that, it's going to sound great.

Ok, I have to go now, so bye.

Let's Tape it...

Ok, so Farewell Typewriter recorded a 3 song EP to 2" tape.  It sounds great! So great in fact that we have decided to go back into the studio to record about 7 more songs, making the record a full length.  But that's not the only recording to tape that I will be doing in the next few months.  Aloha Screwdriver will also be going into the studio in early October to record our first full length album (No Way Out was an EP).  Then Park St. Trio will be hitting the studio to record our second album in December.

There is a lot of music to write, learn and perform over the next few months.  I can tell it's going to be a fun time.

Mean while, the shows keep coming and the rehearsals keep happening.  I added some new videos to the Photo & Video section of the site, so check those out.

Enjoy!

Recording

Good news, Farewell Typewriter is working on an EP.  We have devised a plan to record 3 EP's over the next year and a half.  Each one will be recorded and mixed in just 2 days.  We are recording at Little Red Wagon Studio's (www.myspace.com/lrws#!) in Fremont. The album is being recorded to 2" tape.  Super old school with no overdubs, and only 8 tracks to work with.

Here's a cool video of the tape and a snippet of one of our new tunes:  youtu.be/uTU-DwJ2VJ8

Enjoy!

Out of Town gigs

I'm super excited about out of town gigs right now. This past weekend Farewell Typewriter took an overnight trip to Yosemite, to play at one of our favorite places, Evergreen Lodge. (www.evergreenlodge.com/)  We play up there once or twice a year and every time it is a blast.

We got up there early, set up in the afternoon, played ping pong, had a few drinks and hung out as a band.  Then we played a great 3 hour set, from 10 to 1 AM.  There is magic in playing of out of town show's.  The band gets tighter, you have an experiences to write about, talk about and share with your friends and fans.  Maybe you even get a new song out of it.  For us, it's mostly about having a great time with each other, bonding over food, travel, music, fans...  Pretty much anything that happens.

Next out of town shows for me are with Aloha Screwdriver in June.  We will be gone for 4 days, so a bit longer than last weekend.  The band will drive up to Portland on  Wed. June27th, then play a show on the 28th at Duff's Garage (www.duffsgarage.com/).  The next day we drive up to Seattle to play at Slims Last Chance Saloon (slimslastchance.com/), then back to Portland right after our Seattle gig. We drive back home on Sat. the 30th.  It's going to be a crazy trip, lots of time in the car, but super exciting.  I'm sure that this trip will help the band bond together over something more than a weekly rehearsal and monthly in-town gigs.  We will rock harder and play like we may never be coming back.  (Even though I'm sure we will).

So, if you are in a band and you get a chance to travel out of town, share your music with people that would not otherwise have ever seen you... Then I say go for it!  It will be hard to find something you regret about that.

Working on the site...

Ok, so I admit...  I got my brand new web site running, then took a long break from actually finishing it.  My bad!!!  I'm in the process of adding video, pics and more.  But the first new thing is my mailing list.  Please sign up for it, so I can keep you updated on anything that is happening musically in my world.

Ok, more to come...  Peace!

Park St. Trio

Hey, it's been to long. I have been so busy with music, I just keep forgetting to update my blog. Anyhow, here's the latest. Park St. Trio has released an album!!! It's called "Goodnight, Daylight" and includes 5 tracks by Jason Countryman and 6 tracks by me, yay. This marks the first album I have written songs for, which is super exciting for me.

We recorded the album at Little Red Wagon Studio's in Fremont. The record was recorded onto 2" tape, which means no editing, no protools magic and we did no overdubs. Simply put, we played 3 takes on each track then picked the best take. Simple, fast (11 tracks in 1 day), and live. The album has a great "live" feel because we were all in the same room, playing off of each other. Whatever happened, happened.

Please take a listen to the tracks. If you would like to show your support and purchase the album, you can do that here: Park St. Trio, "Goodnight, Daylight"

If you prefer the physical CD, you can pick one up at a show or feel free to email mail me and we can work it out via Paypal or check in the mail.

Thanks so much, hopefully we'll see you at a show soon, enjoy the music!

Aloha Screwdriver "No Way Out"

Finally, album #2 for the year has been released. Aloha Screwdriver played just one show and had an offer to make an album, so we took it. The songs were recorded directly to 2" tape, then mixed in a traditional stereo spread. The sounds is completely different than anything I have recorded before. With no overdubs, no editing, and very few takes on each song. I hope you enjoy this new... well, actually old sound.

You can download the album right now on iTunes or Amazon:

Amazon - Aloha Screwdriver "No Way Out"

You can also sign up for our email list, from there you will get a link to the actual disc in our new Aloha Screwdriver store, which will be up early next week.
